Report: Bavarian PM speaks against tougher N Stream 2 sanctions

BERLIN, Jan 24 (PRIME) -- Prime Minister of Bavaria Markus Soder spoke against stronger sanctions against Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 on January 22, as quoted by newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

"No one can want a war in Europe. Having this in mind, Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence shall be maintained in accordance with the international law. However, constant new threats and harsh sanctions against Russia cannot be a solution,” Soder said.

“On the one hand, because sanctions have been poorly effective for a long time, on the other hand, because sanctions often harm us equally."

He added that Ukraine’s joining NATO would remain out of the agenda for a long time because Russia is a tough partner but not an enemy.
